The Rise of the Blue Economy

✔ Build a blue economy proposal for a sustainable ocean business or policy idea, tested for feasibility and impact.

✔ Apply this to sustainability research, Regeneron ISEF Earth and Environmental Sciences entries, and environmental science college applications.

Overview

Before the program Students receive a short pre-read on blue economy fundamentals, so Session 1 starts with context already in place. Session 1 | Friday, Oct 9 Foundations and key sectors. Why oceans matter for climate and economic growth. Overview of fisheries, shipping, marine tourism, and other core blue economy sectors. Session 2 | Saturday, Oct 10 Deep dive into marine biotechnology, ocean renewable energy, and the policy frameworks shaping sustainable ocean use. Session 3 | Sunday, Oct 11 Students apply what they learned to design a blue economy proposal, evaluating impact, feasibility, and sustainability tradeoffs. Self paced hours go toward research and refining the final submission. Project submission deadline: Oct 15 After the program Students complete their project documentation, submit for publishing, and receive their certificate. They walk away with a grounded understanding of how ocean economies are built and what it takes to grow them sustainably.

Dr. Abhijit Mitra

Over 750 publications in national and international journals and has written 62 books. Former Head of Marine Science at University of Calcutta, and currently Director of Research at Techno India University.
